Another unique feature of the Atkins Diet is that saturated fats are not considered the main culprits of nutrition – are trans fats found in hydrogenated oils should be avoided, along with carbohydrates.
Therefore, the Atkins diet is one that is severely limited in carbohydrates and is relatively rich in protein and saturated fat.
Dr. Robert Atkins developed the Atkins Diet’s sometime in the sixties.
The inspiration was an article presented in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Dr. Atkins adapted these ideas to formulate a diet and tested on itself, and the results were surprising.
It is thousands of overweight patients and described their diet in a series of books. The rest is history.
The logic behind the Atkins Diet is very simple: your body meet a significant portion of its energy needs by burning carbohydrates as fuel.
And so, if deprived of carbohydrates by replacing them with proteins and fats in your diet, your body runs out of fuel and, therefore, forced to burn fat mode (ketosis).

All the energy needs of the body which then met with the data stored by the burning of body fat, which leads to rapid fat loss and weight loss. When the body is in a state of ketosis, one tends to feel less hungry and thus consume fewer calories than what you would normally.
There are four phases in the Atkins diet: (1) induction, (2) weight loss in progress, (3) Pre-maintenance and (4) maintenance of life.
The induction phase is the most restrictive, with the intake of carbohydrates is limited to allow a small network of 20 grams / day.

This is necessary to push the body into a state of ketosis. A multivitamin supplement is recommended during this initial phase.
In the following stages of the carbohydrate intake was increased gradually (up to a reasonable amount, though still much lower than the average consumption of carbohydrates), but sooner or later, the body has become accustomed to a low carbohydrate diet .
The foods recommended in the Atkins diet
1. Foods rich in protein as meat, fish and eggs are a necessity. However, there should be bread, nor should they be eaten with sauces that are high in carbohydrates.

5. As far as drinks go, Atkins Diet recommends 8 glasses of water a day. Drinks containing sugar are a big no-no – and that includes tea and coffee sweetened. Diet sodas are even good.
